Landlord TDs Found Non-Compliant with Rental Property Registrations

An investigation by The Sunday Times revealed that several landlord TDs failed to register their rental properties with the Residential Tenancies Board (RTB), despite declaring them as income sources in their annual returns.

Under the Residential Tenancies Act 2019, landlords are required to register their rental properties annually, with non-compliance potentially resulting in fines or imprisonment.

Some TDs, including Gillian Toole, Michael Moynihan, Brendan Smith, and Pa Daly, provided explanations or rectified the oversight following the inquiry. Michael Healy-Rae, the Dáil’s largest landlord, asserted compliance with all regulatory obligations.
