RTB Investigates Landlords for Improper Evictions
The Residential Tenancies Board (RTB) is investigating landlords who evicted tenants under the pretence of selling their properties but subsequently re-let them.
In Q4 2022, landlords issued 4,300 eviction notices, with over half citing property sales as the reason. The RTB’s follow-up revealed that in 75% of these cases, no new tenancy was registered, which aligns with legal expectations.
However, concerns arise over landlords potentially misusing this provision. If found guilty of improper conduct, landlords could face fines of up to €15,000.
