RTB Targets Illegal Rent Increases in Rent Pressure Zones

The Residential Tenancies Board (RTB) has identified 16,000 tenancies where landlords may have increased rents beyond the legal 2% annual cap in Rent Pressure Zones (RPZs).

In response, the RTB launched an awareness campaign, including webinars and radio advertisements, to educate landlords about rent regulations. Landlords found in breach may face fines up to €15,000 and additional costs of €15,000. Common violations include failing to register properties and unlawfully retaining tenants deposits.

A proposed bill aims to establish a Deposit Protection Scheme to safeguard tenants deposits and reduce disputes.
