RTB Declares Lease Termination Invalid Over Work-From-Home Dispute

The Residential Tenancies Board (RTB) ruled that a landlord’s termination of a tenant’s lease was invalid.

The tenant had been working from home, which led to increased electricity costs included in her €865 monthly rent. The landlord issued a termination notice, citing the tenant’s use of the property as an office.

The RTB found this reason insufficient and declared the notice invalid. However, the tenant had also served her own notice and left the property, so the RTB did not award compensation.
